Thermography

A Breast Thermogram is the only screening that gives a woman a risk assessment. By knowing the state of her breast health through thermography, she is empowered to take proactive, preventive steps to decrease risk. At Holistic Breast & Lymphatic Care, we assist women who have had breast thermograms understand more about what is in their tissue. With a comprehensive breast exam, women will become more aware of how their breasts feel so they can be alerted if there are any changes. In the comprehensive breast exam, we teach lymphatic breast drainage and massage.

Breast Thermography, also known as Breast Thermal Imaging, uses a very sensitive digital infrared camera to measure heat on the surface of the breasts. Thermography can show temperature differentials from one breast to another. Significantly warmer areas of the breasts may indicate infection, trauma, inflammation or congestion. They may want repeat breast thermography after sufficient action through self-breast care and treatment.

The Rainbow View maps heat differences in color and is used by the evaluating doctor to visualize any regional temperature differences. The doctor is particularly interested in seeing if there is a significant difference in temperature in an area of one breast compared to the contralateral (same) area of the other breast.

The Grayscale View is used to visualize vascular pattern(s). Since the concentrated blood in the veins is typically warmer than the surrounding tissue, the veins show up as darker lines in Grayscale View. Irregular vascular patterns can be indicative of abnormal cells forming new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels, a physiological process known as angiogenesis.

BREAST THERMAL IMAGING IS FOR WOMEN OF ALL AGES & ALL BREAST TYPES

It is especially effective for women with dense breasts, women with breast implants, women who have had breast reductions and for monitoring after surgery. It is also safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Women who begin to have Breast Thermograms in their 20’s, and establish their unique Breast prints earlier, will benefit the most by this proactive, preventive screening. By having regular Breast Thermograms, women can monitor their breast health throughout their lives and be alerted of any physiological changes in time to incorporate preventive strategies to reduce their risk of disease. Physiological changes typically occur years before structural changes.
